La Folia + Alissa MArgulis, Violine + Ramón Ortega Quero, Oboe
Sonderprojekt
General Information
„La Folia“ - The name says it all. Not only does it refer to one of the most exciting dances of the Baroque but also “La Folia” stands for “noisy festivity”, lunacy and madness – attributes, the ensemble has been dedicated to with provocative passion since its creation in 2007.

The musicians of “La Folia” – all laureates of international contests and members of leading German orchestras (among them Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Orchester der Oper Frankfurt a. M./ Frankfurter Museumsorchester, Orchester des Nationaltheaters Mannheim etc.) – really like to emphasize an unconventional way of performing in their ecstatic play, essentially, anything but standard. Meaning: intriguing virtuosity combined with a profound knowledge of playing on historicized meets radically new dimensions of eruptive spontaneity, which always drives the audience to ecstatic waves of excitement.

The repertoire of “La Folia” mainly covers vocal and instrumental music of the 17th and 18th centuries with a special emphasize on Antonio Vivaldi. Depending on the demands of the program there are 5 to 25 musicians in the ensemble.
