On Friday night, the Russian violinist Viktoria Mullova played a recital at Carnegie Hall, with the French pianist Katia Labeque. When young, Ms. Mullova won a couple of big competitions, including the Tchaikovsky in Moscow. She has since gone in some unconventional directions - for example, into pop and jazz, or some hybrid involving the two.
